Hollywood Beach and the Broadwalk — twenty minutes south and absolutely worth the drive for the atmosphere alone. Wide sand, the Broadwalk right there for coffee afterward, and restrooms at Johnson Street, Garfield Street, and the Margaritaville complex. Parking runs $3 to $5 an hour in the garages, up to $30 on weekends. Commercial setups need a City of Hollywood permit. Go 8:30 to 11 a.m.
Hugh Taylor Birch State Park — the shaded alternative tucked just behind Fort Lauderdale Beach, and a genuine hidden gem. $6 per vehicle for up to eight people, paved parking inside, and clean restrooms by the concessions. It is also the one place on this list where alcohol is allowed, either within a rented pavilion or at the Park 'N Ocean beer garden. Pavilion rentals go through the state park office. Lovely from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Pompano Beach — quieter and far less crowded than Fort Lauderdale Beach, which some groups love. The Pier Parking Garage runs roughly $1.50 to $2.50 an hour depending on the day, with clean restrooms and showers right at the pier entrance. Commercial setups need a city vendor permit. Mornings only, 8 to 11:30.
Dania Beach — small, low-key, and refreshingly easy. On-site lot parking is $5 an hour after a recent rate increase, with restrooms by the pier and the Quarterdeck. A great pick if your rental sits south of the city or near the airport. Early morning is the window.
